Riedell Speed Boots that include: "REINFORCEMENT ON OUTSDE QUARTER" have a counter and that is heat moldable. (Even more of the 1065 is mouldable.)
Connie,
Well, I tried the heat method and it worked.
I used a heat gun (Ryobi, because there are 4 temp settings which most heat guns only have 2; 700-1000 degrees F).
The heat gun made the rigid support pieces pliable and I was able to shape them to my needs. After which I applied "Lexol" leather conditioner to the inside and outside, and my skates feel like they've been broken-in for weeks.
(Each time I used the heat gun, it was used on the inside leather of the skate, and not the outside. I did not want to cause any damage to the black finish/die)
I used the heat gun at the 200 degree setting, and heated up the arch, worked it into shape with my hands (and the rounded end of a screwdriver handle), then applied Lexol conditioner (I performed these steps about 3-4 times per boot before I was pleased with the feel). I would say not to forget to apply the Lexol leather conditioner, otherwise the heat gun will just dry out the leather.
Now if someone asks about the Riedell speed skates, you can let them know it is possible to mold them to their specific needs. It just takes some time and patience.
Thanks,
"o-deziner"
