Children's shoes begin in the Juvenile sizes. Your child's first shoes may have been a J1. They go up to J13 1/2. When a child gets to size 1, the size scale is the same as adult shoes. A child's 4 is the same length as an adult's 4. Many parents find it economically advisable to order one size larger for younger children while their feet are growing so quickly. The children will need to wear two pairs of socks for a few months.
